How to Measure for Curtains & Roman Blinds

Getting your measurements right is essential to achieving a beautifully finished result. If you’re unsure at any stage, feel free to get in touch - we’re always happy to help.

Measuring for Curtains

Width (track or pole)

Measure the full width of your curtain pole or track — not the window itself.

• If you don’t yet have a pole or track fitted, we recommend extending it 15–30cm either side of the window to allow the curtains to stack neatly when open.
• This measurement determines how full and luxurious your curtains will look.

Drop (length)

Measure from the top of the pole or track downwards.

Choose your preferred finish:

• Sill length: ends just below the window sill
• Below sill: approximately 15–20cm below the sill
• Floor length: finishes around 1cm above the floor
• Puddle (decorative): extends slightly onto the floor

👉 Always use a metal tape measure and measure in centimetres.

Measuring for Roman Blinds

Width

Measure the width of the window recess in three places:

• Top
• Middle
• Bottom

👉 Use the smallest measurement to ensure the blind fits neatly inside the recess.

If fitting outside the recess, measure the area you would like the blind to cover, allowing extra on each side for better light control.

Drop

Measure the drop (height) in three places:

• Left
• Centre
• Right

👉 Again, use the smallest measurement for accuracy.

A Few Helpful Tips

• Always double-check your measurements before ordering
• Use a metal tape measure (not fabric or flexible)
• Measure in centimetres
• If your walls or recess are uneven, always use the smallest measurement
